Accomplished local government general manager, Ms Rebecca Ryan, has been announced as the new CEO of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC).
Ms Ryan is the current General Manager of Blayney Shire Council. Blayney Shire Council was recently awarded the A.R. Bluett Memorial Award for being the most progressive rural council in NSW, an award also won by QPRC in 2020.
Mayor of QPRC, Cr Kenrick Winchester congratulated Ms Ryan on her appointment and said he, and his fellow councillors, were looking forward to working with her when she commences on 9 May 2022.
'I am delighted to announce Rebecca Ryan as the next CEO of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
'Rebecca is an experienced local government leader and I am excited to work alongside her to continue to drive the organisation towards an exciting future.
'Following the merger in 2016, the organisation has flourished under the leadership of previous CEO Peter Tegart and I am excited by what Rebecca can bring to the organisation as we prepare a new Delivery Program and tackle some important issues,' Mayor Winchester said.
Rebecca holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of New England, a Master of Local Government from the University of Technology Sydney, and a Bachelor of Rural Science from the University of New England.
In accepting the role, Ms Ryan said she was extremely excited by the opportunity Council has given her.
'I look forward to the move to Queanbeyan with my husband, and leading the organisation into the future, building on the great work that I can see has been achieved over many years, in particular the leadership of Peter Tegart.
'This is an exciting time for Queanbeyan-Palerang with so many opportunities outlined in the Community Strategic Plan. The professionalism and dedication of the Mayor and Councillors is evident, and together we will bring to life these activities and projects.
'I am also conscious that the financial sustainability of the Council is paramount so we can deliver excellent services to our community across the whole council area.
'The staff are key to any successful organisation, and I will be establishing very strong partnerships across all departments. I want to ensure our people have the resources to do their job effectively and to support their professional goals, aspirations and growth.
'One of my first tasks will be to get out and about and meet as many staff, business and community members as I can. I want to hear where Council may improve and they can be assured I am a very good listener, and will be working with Council to build a better Queanbeyan-Palerang,' Ms Ryan said.
The appointment of Ms Ryan comes after a nationwide recruitment process that attracted many high quality applications. Three applicants were interviewed initially, with a final interview held with two candidates on 19 March.
