Appointment To Old Parliament House Board 12 March

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Albanese Labor Government has appointed Ms Sarah Davies AM as a member of the Board of Old Parliament House, which manages the Museum of Australian Democracy, for a three-year term.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, welcomed Ms Davies and said her knowledge of corporate governance and philanthropy, and her experience working with cultural institutions, would be a valued addition to the Board.

"Sarah is familiar with the workings of some of our treasured National Collecting Institutions, and previously served as the Deputy Chair of the National Museum of Australia Council.

"It's important that we have people on our institutions' boards who understand and value the role that our institutions play in preserving, sharing and celebrating Australian stories, and who are able to draw upon their experience to strengthen these institutions."

Old Parliament House was the home of the Federal Parliament from 1927 to 1988, when the current Parliament House was opened. It is home to the Museum of Australian Democracy, which provides Australians with an enriched understanding of the political legacy and value of Australian democracy.

Ms Sarah Davies AM is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to keeping children and young people free from violence and trauma. Ms Davies' career of nearly 40 years has been wide-ranging, encompassing executive roles in the tertiary education sector, private sector consulting, philanthropy and social justice.

Ms Davies sits on various boards, including as the Chair of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission Advisory Board and as Deputy Chair and Non-Executive Director of Social Ventures Australia.

In 2020, Ms Davies was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community through a range of executive roles.
