The Panel is the primary dispute resolution forum during takeover bids. The Panel was established as a peer review panel and accordingly it is vital that its members possess the requisite expertise in mergers and acquisitions practice, including a special ability to adopt a commercially orientated approach in their deliberations. The Panel plays an important role in ensuring Australia's capital markets remain efficient and competitive.

These appointments will continue the high level of skills and experience available to the Panel, ensuring that it has appropriately qualified members to deal with the range of complex issues which are raised in applications.

These appointments and reappointments continue the Government's strong record of identifying capable women for senior public sector roles.

The functions and powers of the Panel are conferred by the Corporations Act 2001 and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001.
