If you're considering an Apprenticeship or Traineeship for 2022, it's time to dust off your resume as organisations across Australia start recruiting for their 2022 Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programs.
What are Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programs?
Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programs are annual intakes of apprentices or trainees. Many larger businesses, city councils and government agencies prefer to start all their apprentices at the same time, generally at the start of the year, and hire anywhere between 10-100 new starters.
These apprenticeships and traineeships can vary in type, with some organisation offering trade apprenticeships, and some offering non- trade apprenticeships and traineeships. Each program is different, so be sure to research your industry and role before applying.

What is the difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship?
In Australia, the term Australian Apprenticeship covers both apprenticeships and traineeships. However, there are some minor differences, which vary state-to-state. If you want to find out more about how things work in your state, you can see a list of all state governments here.
Apprenticeships take approximately 3-4 years to complete, whilst traineeships are generally 1- 2 years.
When you complete your apprenticeship, you also get trade papers – however you do not receive this on completion of your traineeship however you do receive a certification or qualification.
How to find available Apprenticeship and Traineeship programs?
There are several ways to keep an eye on currently available Apprenticeship and Traineeship programs.
Many organisations will publish a news article when they are opening for applications. You can set up media alerts through google using the terms, 'apprenticeship program' and 'traineeship program', which will send you an email alert when a new item is published.
You can also set up alerts on job search sites such as Indeed, Seek and via LinkedIn. Again, by using the terms 'apprenticeship program' and 'traineeship program' along with the location you wish to work, you will receive a notification when opportunities are available.
Many organisations also share their job opportunities on social media platforms. If you have an organisation you wish to work for, follow them on social media for updates.

How to apply for an opportunity?
Most organisations will require you to apply online by the due date.
When preparing your application, ensure you read the instructions carefully and submit everything they ask for. This could be a resume, cover letter and key selection criteria. It's important to remember that they may get thousands of applications, so if you do not follow instructions you may not be invited to interview.
If you have already applied for this program in previous years, you are welcome to try again. If unsuccessful you can ask for feedback to help you if you wish to apply in the future.
If you are unsure of the due date, or any requirements – you can reach out to the organisation directly and they will be able to answer your questions.
