Approval for Anakie waste to energy site

EPA Victoria has approved an application from Pavilion Biogas Pty Ltd to build an integrated facility processing organic material to create an organic fertiliser and biogas fuel that will create energy from the waste material.

The proposed facility, in Carrs Rd, Anakie, will process agricultural organic wastes through anaerobic digestion to produce a fertilise and biogas which will be combusted onsite in three 1.2 MW combined heat and power (CHP) machines, providing over 21,000 MWh per year. This will provide heat and power for the facility, the adjacent chicken farms with any remaining electricity exported to the grid.

In approving the application, EPA took into account its consultations with the community and has ensured conditions will manage issues such as potential odour emissions and noise.

The facility will be based between two existing broiler farms on land already owned by the company.
