ARA Unveils First Australasian Rail Certificate

The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) is introducing an essential program to equip rail professionals, new and experienced, with the expertise they need to succeed.

The ARA Professional Certificate in Rail is a 25-week, online training program designed to address the growing demand for skilled workers. Created in partnership with industry experts, the program provides participants with comprehensive knowledge and industry insights, allowing them to stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving rail sector.

The certificate covers key areas such as rail operations, infrastructure and maintenance, rail safety, supply chain management, and asset lifecycle planning and management. Enrolments are now open for the first cohort for the ARA Professional Certificate in Rail, which starts on 3 March 2025.

ARA CEO Caroline Wilkie said the ARA Professional Certificate in Rail offers a unique opportunity for rail professionals to gain valuable, up-to-date knowledge that is directly applicable to real-world rail projects and operations.

"The Professional Certificate in Rail is an Australian first for our industry. It has been designed to support employers with onboarding or employee development programs," said Ms Wilkie.

The ARA Professional Certificate in Rail offers participants comprehensive industry knowledge that can be applied immediately to their roles. It provides industry newcomers with the terminology and cross-disciplined understanding to communicate more effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders from day one.

Experienced industry professionals will also benefit from learning materials that explore emerging industry trends and contemporary rail issues such as sustainability, digitisation and automation.

The Professional Certificate in Rail is offered entirely online, through the ARA Learning platform, making it accessible to professionals anywhere. Learning is self-paced, with each of the five courses open for five weeks, and the flexibility to pause and resume as needed.
