Vital statistics are essential to understand population dynamics, guide government planning, and monitor progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. However, civil registration systems still face several challenges, especially in countries that suffer from humanitarian crises and instability.
On 28 and 29 May, ESCWA, AITRS and UNFPA in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF, organized a regional workshop to monitor and review the progress made in implementing the strategic framework for improving civil registration and vital statistics systems (2021-2025).
Participants exchanged experiences that could be leveraged to accelerate the implementation of the strategic framework during the remaining period.
