Ararat Rural City Council are pleased to announce that funding has been successfully secured for the establishment of a new dog park in Ararat.
The new dog park will be located at Ararat's Centenary Park and will provide a dedicated secure outdoor space for dog owners to exercise and socialise their dogs off-leash safely.
This project will accommodate features which support healthy and safe activity, including secure fencing, shaded areas and waste disposal stations.
It will also offer other benefits, including opportunities to socialise, improved mental and physical health for dog owners, and a safer environment for dogs to exercise and play.
This project is supported by $100,000 received under the State Government's New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, which aims to improve Victoria's network of open spaces by investing in green open spaces for dog owners to enjoy the outdoors with their dogs.
The new dog park project was chosen through a competitive statewide application process amongst other councils, with works expected to begin in February 2026 and be completed by the end of October 2026.
"We recognise the numerous benefits of outdoor activity for all our residents, including our canine companions," says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong.
"This dedicated space will provide a safe area for dog owners and their dogs to enjoy the outdoors and stay active, while also creating opportunities for community connection."
