We are delighted to announce that Goulburn Regional Art Gallery will host a public program with Australian contemporary artist Julia Gutman – the winner of the Archibald Prize 2023, an Art Gallery of New South Wales touring exhibition. The Archibald Prize is Australia's foremost prize for portraiture, with Gutman the second youngest artist to be awarded the prize since Nora Heysen in 1967.

Visit Goulburn Regional Art Gallery at 12pm on Friday 16 February to attend the artist talk with Julia Gutman amongst this iconic exhibition. The talk will be held in the Gallery's exhibition space beside Gutman's award-winning portrait Head in the sky, feet on the ground 2023. Gutman will speak to her artistic practice making large-scale, complex figurative works, detailing her experience preparing a portrait for the nation's most prestigious art prize.

"It is an honour to have Julia Gutman, Winner of the Archibald Prize 2023, at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery. The community and visitors alike have been loving the Archibald Prize 2023 exhibition and this exclusive program will provide even closer insight into the prize and the artistic practice of Gutman"– Mayor Peter Walker, Goulburn Mulwaree Council

"Facilitating exciting public engagement opportunities is extremely important to the Gallery, particularly those that bring leading Australian artists to the region. Providing our local audiences with the ability to ask questions and interact directly with artists promotes life-long learning and inspires our visitors to get involved in the arts through looking, learning and creating." - Yvette Dal Pozzo, Director, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery.
