Nationals Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, has welcomed news that NSW TrainLink will add an extra carriage to its Armidale to Sydney service this weekend in response to the temporary closure of Armidale Airport.
Saturday's Xplorer service to Sydney (February 15) and the returning service on Sunday (February 16) will have an additional carriage with an expected increase in demand for transport services to and from Sydney.
"It is great to see NSW TrainLink stepping up to provide assistance to travellers who need to get to Sydney from Armidale," Mr Moylan said.
"The unexpected closure of Armidale Airport disrupted travel plans for many people, so it is good to see an alternative provided."
Mr Moylan said the extra carriage is in addition to extra flights Qantas has added to its Tamworth route and the buses Armidale Regional Council has provided to get travellers to and from Tamworth Airport.
Armidale Airport was closed earlier this week after scheduled maintenance work caused underground water to destabilize the runway pavement, making it unsafe for planes to operate.
Council has advised Armidale Airport will remain closed until Saturday.
