Northern Territory Police are investigating after two dangerous driving incidents in Alice Springs overnight.
Around 3:30am, police received reports of a single vehicle crash on the Stuart Highway, Ilyperenye.
The driver of a Holden Statesman allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with multiple trees. The vehicle is believed to have been carrying 5 occupants when it crashed, including a young child.
The 45-year-old male driver suffered a serious hip injury and is currently receiving treatment in Alice Springs Hospital under police guard.
In a separate incident at around 4:10am, police received reports that a stolen Toyota Prado had rammed a security vehicle on Gregory Terrace, Alice Springs. Both occupants of the security vehicle were conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for assessment having suffered no visible injuries.
A short time later the same vehicle attempted to ram a police vehicle, forcing the officer to take evasive action. The stolen motor vehicle collided with the rear of the police vehicle, causing minor damage. No officers were injured.
The Prado was successfully tyre spiked on the Stuart Highway, south of The Gap, and a 12-year-old male arrested. He currently remains in police custody while Strike Force Viper continue investigations.
