Arrests Made in Aggravated Robbery, Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested three youths in relation to an aggravated robbery at a service station on the Stuart Highway in Alice Springs yesterday.

Around 8.30pm, police received reports of an unknown number of occupants of a vehicle failing to pre-pay for fuel at the service station. Two of the occupants proceeded to allegedly produce a blunt weapon which they used to break multiple glass panels.

Two female employees locked themselves in an office and did not suffer any injuries.

The offenders entered the store and proceeded to allegedly steal two cash tills before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle being driven by the offenders had previously been reported stolen earlier in the night.

Officers from Strike Force Viper, Operation Grimmel, the Dog Operations Unit, Crime Scene Examination Unit and general duties responded and began investigations.

Around 11.30pm the vehicle was subsequently located south of Alice Springs. Strike Force Viper attended and seized the stolen motor vehicle and arrested three male youths.

Two of the youths, aged 13 and 14 years-old, will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005. The third youth was conveyed home into the care of a responsible adult.
