Police are investigating after a man lit a number of fires and evaded police in Byfield overnight, Queensland Police say.
At approximately 5.45pm yesterday emergency services were responding to a fire near a camp ground at Waterpark Creek, Byfield.
They were confronted by a man who attempted light further fires and made threats.
A short time later police attempted to intercept a Green Toyota Starlet hatchback in the Byfield area however the vehicle evaded police.
At approximately 2.00am this morning it is believed the same man entered a residence on Richters Road in Byfield and threatened another man with what appeared to be a machete.
The occupant was assaulted before he escaped and hid in bushland before making his way back to the residence at daylight and notifying police.
Upon returning home the victim noticed his Toyota Hilux Utility had been stolen.
Investigators have released an image of a man who may be able to assist police with their enquiries.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 50s with short hair.
He may be travelling in a 2004 Toyota Hilux Utility with Queensland registration 727-SJQ (similar to pictured).
Anyone who sees the man should not approach him and should instead contact Triple Zero (000).
