Australia's relationship with New Zealand has always been close and comprehensive, underpinned by generations of deep friendship and close cooperation.
Over the next two days I will meet with members of the New Zealand Government in Wellington to boost our collective efforts to address the scourge of scams.
This will include meeting with New Zealand's Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the Hon Andrew Bayly, who was recently appointed lead anti‑scam minister.
The discussions will cover Australia's significant anti‑scam agenda and our landmark Scams Prevention Framework.
I will also be discussing a range of other topics with our New Zealand counterparts including the Government's proposed new digital competition regime, the Consumer Data Right and merger reform.
I will meet with representatives of the New Zealand Commerce Commission, the New Zealand Companies Office, the Financial Market Authority and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
In addition to discussing these important issues, I will take the opportunity to deepen the bilateral relationship by signing a revised Australia-New Zealand Government Electronic Invoicing Arrangement. With over 460,000 businesses now registered for eInvoicing across the Tasman, our common approach exemplifies how close collaboration can drive adoption and disrupt payment redirection scams.
The trip comes after I led a delegation to Singapore in June to strengthen collaboration on our scams crackdown across the region, in conjunction with representatives from the Government of New Zealand.
The visit was a successful mutual fact‑sharing exchange between Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
A strong relationship with New Zealand is mutually beneficial for our people, communities and economy.
