The Australian Trucking Association has announced the winners of the two technical awards in the 2024 National Trucking Industry Awards, the Castrol Industry Achievement Award and the Craig Roseneder Award for Technical and Maintenance Excellence.
The winner of the 2024 Castrol Industry Achievement Award is Callum Boyce of Bisitecniks. The General Manager of Castrol Australia and New Zealand, Jane Carland, presented Callum with the prestigious award.
The Castrol Industry Achievement Award honours technical innovation and accomplishments in the Australian trucking sector. Recipients of this award have not only enhanced the operations of their own company but have shared those advances with the broader industry.
The winner of the 2024 Craig Roseneder Award is John Jenkin of Tatiara Truck & Trailers in Bordertown, South Australia.
Also sponsored by Castrol, the Craig Roseneder Award recognises technical and maintenance excellence in the trucking industry's workshops.
John will receive a fully paid trip to attend the 2025 US Technology and Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee.
The winners were announced on 22 October at the 2024 Castrol Awards Dinner at the Crown Aviary, Melbourne. The dinner was part of the 2024 Technology and Maintenance Conference.
Also at the dinner, ATA Industry Technical Council Chair Dennis Roohan announced the first four honorary life members of ITC.
"This time last year, the ATA's Industry Technical Council voted to establish honorary life memberships, so we could recognise members who have made enormous, long-term contributions to our work.
"Congratulations to Bob Woodward, Kel Baxter, Keith Mackinlay and Lance Fisher," he said.
2024 CASTROL INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER
Callum Boyce, Bisitecniks
After completing his engineering degree at the Federation University of Australia, Callum Boyce joined Bisitecniks in 2014.
Callum's roles at Bisitecniks include testing, analysis and certification, giving him a unique opportunity to see products develop from conception and testing, all the way to in-service fitment as an NHVR VSB6 AVE.
Alongside former ATA Chief Engineer and ITC honorary life member Bob Woodward, Callum represented the ATA on the Australian Standards Working Group assisting in the development of AS 2213-2022 and AS 4968-2023.
Callum completed his Master of Engineering Technology research thesis on the 'Suitability of Existing Automatic Pin Couplings and Tow Eyes for Use on Triaxle Rigid Drawbar Converter Dollies.' This project was pivotal in the adoption of the coupling rating performance extension from UN ECE 13 into AS 2213-2022.
2024 CRAIG ROSENEDER AWARD WINNER
John Jenkin, Tatiara Truck & Trailers, Bordertown, South Australia
John Jenkin and his partner co-founded Tatiara Truck & Trailers four decades ago. Today, it is a reputable and diverse Australian workshop with 60 employees.
The business is recognised for attracting major dealerships like Cat, Cummins, Detroit, Perkins, Volvo, and Scania, and they serve as a Kenworth sub-dealer. The Tatiara team's expertise includes general servicing, engine and gearbox work to brake overhauls, wheel alignments, engineering, tyre services, and a 24-hour breakdown service covering a 400km radius.
John's commitment to his community includes building a training facility in collaboration with local schools, RTOs, and government bodies to create job opportunities for local youth.
