The Tasmanian Government has welcomed the appointment of the newest judge for the Supreme Court of Tasmania, Kate Cuthbertson SC after being sworn in by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC.
Justice Cuthbertson has been a judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court since 2024, and was admitted to practice in 1999, before working as a barrister and solicitor with the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, congratulated Judge Cuthbertson on her appointment.
"Tasmania's Supreme Court has a proud 200-year history and Judge Cuthbertson will no doubt build upon this terrific legacy," the Attorney-General said.
"Judge Cuthbertson brings a wealth of experience to this position having worked extensively as a barrister, solicitor and judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia over the course of 20 years.
"Our justice system plays a number of important functions in our modern, democratic society and it remains vitally important to uphold this institution.
"I have full confidence that Judge Cuthbertson will continue to uphold and add to Tasmania's justice system.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future champions a robust, fit-for-purpose legal system and our judges are critical to achieving this goal."
