Australia's first female astronaut took the opportunity to experience some of what the Australian Defence Force has to offer at the Australian International Airshow 2025.
Group Captain Katherine Bennell-Pegg, the first astronaut to qualify under the Australian Flag, met with aviators from a variety of specialisations. From patrolling the airshow with military working dogs and their handlers to aircraft technicians on the flight line, GPCAPT Bennell-Pegg received a front row seat to experience the ADF's world-class capabilities including time in the cockpit of an EA-18G Growler.
"I am really energized by what I've been hearing from so many of our aviators." Group Captain Bennell-Pegg said.
"Everyone has made me feel so welcome."
Group Captain Bennell-Pegg emphasised the importance of events like the Australian International Airshow to provide the Australian public insight into how the ADF keeps our nation secure.
"The airshow gives young people the opportunity to speak to our passionate aviators, learn about their jobs and possibly consider some new future career opportunities." Group Captain Bennell-Pegg said.
A Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ambassador, Group Captain Bennell-Pegg had the opportunity to speak to aviators at the Clear to Launch: Junior Aviator Symposium.
Part of the Air and Space Power Centre, the symposium is a dynamic platform to gain junior Avaitors perspectives, collaborate with colleagues across all levels, and spark revolutionary ideas that will shape the future of the ADF.
Group Captain Bennell-Pegg, was commissioned into the Royal Australian Air Force reserves last year and proud to wear the Australian flag on two uniforms.
"Weather I'm wearing my blue astronaut flight suit or the green Air Force flight suit, I feel that sense of service and pride to represent my country.
"I'm proud to represent my country. And, I'm really excited for the future and synergy of those working together." Group Captain Bennell-Pegg said.
The tour concluded with a visit to the ADF Careers display, sharing her knowledge, insight and passion with young people considering a career in the Australian Defence Force.
