Australia Announces New High Commissioner To Cook Islands

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Susannah Hodson as Australia's next High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.

Australia and the Cook Islands have deep historical and cultural connections with common values and strong family ties.

Australia's relationship with the Cook Islands is underpinned by our bilateral 'Oa Tumanava Partnership. It is a commitment to working together in support of Pacific unity, greater prosperity, and enhanced security.

Australia works closely with the Cook Islands in the Pacific Islands Forum to enhance regional co-operation and achieve our shared vision for a stable and unified Pacific.

Ms Hodson is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director Sports Projects, Office of the Pacific.

She has previously served overseas in Fiji and Belgium.

I thank outgoing High Commissioner Phoebe Smith for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in the Cook Islands since 2023.
