Australia Appoints New Ambassador To Ireland 9 March

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Chantelle Taylor as Australia's next Ambassador to Ireland.

Australia and Ireland established diplomatic relations in 1946 and today enjoy a close relationship with enduring ties through culture, sport, music and tourism. One in ten Australians claim Irish descent.

Ireland is a strong voice within the European Union, and will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July to December 2026.

Commercial relations between Australia and Ireland continue to grow, with two-way goods and services trade worth $7.7 billion in 2023.

Ms Taylor is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently a Special Adviser in the Regulatory and Legal Policy Division.

She has previously served overseas as the Acting Australian Consul-General in Honolulu and at Australia's High Commission in Ottawa.

I thank former Ambassador the Hon Gary Gray AO and outgoing Chargé d'Affaires Lachlan Crews for their contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Ireland since August 2020 and September 2024, respectively.
