Australia Backs Solomon Islands Police Expansion

On 20 December 2024, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia, and the Hon Jeremiah Manele MP, Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, released a Joint Statement announcing that Australia would a package of support to grow the size and capability of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

Guided by Solomon Islands' priorities, Australia's package of support will include funding, training and infrastructure to grow the RSIPF in a sustainable manner, including support for a new sovereign Police Training Centre in Honiara. This new step in our bilateral partnership builds on more than four decades of security cooperation between Solomon Islands and Australia, spanning policing, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, defence, border and cyber security.
