Bayside Council will commemorate Australia Day with a citizenship ceremony in the Rockdale Town Hall as well as a family day at the Botany Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 26 January.
"It has been challenging to plan Australia Day events due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," Mayor Christina Curry said.
"But we owe it to all those who have also chosen this day to become Australian Citizens to make sure it is as memorable and as safe as possible."
Bayside Council's Australia Day ceremony in the Rockdale Town Hall will only be open to those attending the Citizenship Ceremony.
The ceremony will include:
- Welcome to Country by Aunty Donna Ingram
- Performance by the Gamay Dancers from La Perouse
- Citizenship Ceremony to welcome our newest citizens
- Bayside Citizen of the Year Awards
Australia Day at the Botany Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 26 January will encourage residents to reflect, respect and celebrate this Australia Day.
The family day event at the Botany Aquatic Centre runs from 11am to 3pm and will include:
- Water and cultural craft activities
- Indigenous dance and didgeridoo performances
- Live music and much more
- Pool entry fee will apply
The Botany Golf Course and Pro Shop will also be open on Australia Day.
Current COVID-19 safety regulations will be in place at all venues.
Council Libraries and Customer Service Centres will be closed on Australia Day.
