Australia Day Award nominations are now open for 2024. Australia Day awards are an opportunity to recognise outstanding contributions to our local communities.
The Young Citizen Award is open to people between 14 and 26 years of age on 26 January 2024 and the Citizen Award is open to people over 27 years of age. The Community Event of the Year Award recognises the best conducted events between November 2022 and October 2023.
'These awards are a great way to celebrate people in our LGA who have gone above and beyond to make our community the best place it can be,' said Mayor Kenrick Winchester.
'It's important we recognise the contributions of others and make sure they know how appreciated their efforts are.'
Recipients will be recognised at separate events for the Braidwood, Bungendore, Captains Flat and Queanbeyan communities.
Criteria for eligibility for the citizen awards includes contribution to the community including the length and quantity of service, including individual acts of compassion, generosity, and bravery. People who have previously been nominated but have not received an award are eligible to be nominated again, however, people cannot nominate themselves. Clubs, associations and individuals can nominate a person, but clubs, associations and organisations cannot be nominated for these awards.
The Event of the Year is open to any event that has contributed to the Queanbeyan-Palerang community and has not received an award in the past.
