Mildura Rural City Council's annual Australia Day celebrations will return to Nowingi Place on Wednesday 26 January 2022.
Getting underway from 8am, the popular event is a chance for local residents to come together and celebrate what it means to be Australians.
The event will include a free breakfast from the Mildura Lion's Club, live entertainment and a flag-raising ceremony.
New citizens will also be officially welcomed, while winners of Council's 2022 Australia Day Awards will be announced across three categories – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Project or Event of the Year.
Mayor Cr Liam Wood encouraged the community to embrace the annual celebration.
"Our 2022 Australia Day event represents an opportunity to come together as a community in a COVID-safe way and celebrate all that is great about our region," he said.
"Whether it's welcoming new citizens to our region, or acknowledging those in our community making a difference, Australia Day is a chance to celebrate our individuality and what makes our region a great place to call home.
"It's also an important time to recognise and reflect on the rich, strong and enduring culture that lies at the heart of our country, and the ongoing connection our First Peoples have with the land."
Mildura Rural City Council's 2022 Australia Day event will be subject to COVID-19 restrictions, with details subject to change in line with Victorian Government health advice.
Those attending are encouraged to practice COVID-safe principles, including social distancing and hand hygiene. Residents are encouraged to watch for any COVID symptoms, and stay home if they are feeling unwell.
Residents planning to attend our Australia Day event are encouraged to take note of any forecast warmer weather and prepare accordingly, including wearing a hat, applying sunscreen and drinking plenty of water on the day. Picnic rugs and chairs are BYO.
