Victoria University is proud to share the news that the hard work and dedication of several alumni, friends, supporters and one staff member, has been recognised in the Australia Day 2021 Honours List.
"As the Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, it is inspiring to see the impact that so many of the University's alumni, friends and supporters have made across the Australian community - and in a range of important fields. To see these significant contributions recognised at the highest level is wonderful," said Professor Adam Shoemaker.
The work of the following individuals were singled out for the significant contribution they have made to the community:
- Mr Manyang Berberi - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the South Sudanese community of Victoria.
- Dr Elizabeth Anne Crock - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to nursing, particularly to people living with HIV/AIDS.
- VU's Dr Teresa De Fazio, Adjunct Fellow of the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities (ISILC) - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her services to tertiary education.
- Mr Ian Leslie Gray - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the law, and to Indigenous justice.
- Mr Fernando Ianni - Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to secondary education in Victoria.
- Mr Peter Godfrey McMullin - Medal of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to business, to the law, and to the community.
- Ms Kathryn Ann Mitchell - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to urban planning, and to professional associations.
- Mr Roger William Poole - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to architecture, and to the community.
- Mr Clive Ian Scott - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the hotel accommodation industry, and to the arts.
- Mr Stephen Michael Walls - Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) for distinguished service to the fire and emergency management sector for 42 years as a volunteer and career firefighter throughout Victoria with the Country Fire Authority (CFA), including five years at the Korumburra Brigade.
The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of Australia said that this year's recipients were diverse and unique, but the characteristics they shared include selflessness, commitment and dedication.
VU's Dr Ross Coller, Executive Director, Engagement & Advancement said it was "wonderful to see that the work of our alumni, colleagues past and present, and partners to make the world a better place is recognised publicly and valued by the wider community."
