Australia Post has revealed South Australians are the most 'loved-up' Aussies, with lucky valentines across the southern state being the most likely to receive a cheeky V-Day gift (wink).
This year, over 18 million parcels are expected to be delivered nationally in the two weeks prior to Valentine's Day, with South Australia poised to take the thorny crown. In 2023, the state saw the biggest spike in parcel deliveries with a 7 per cent increase, sweeping lovers off their feet in the lead up to V-Day.
Demonstrating that love really has no state boundaries, Tasmania and Victoria are coming in hot tying for second place, both seeing a 4 per cent spike in last year's parcel deliveries ahead of the most romantic day of the year.
It seems that when love comes to town, it skips Queensland, with parcel deliveries only spiking 0.5 per cent in 2023, leaving Queenslanders with the raw end of the deal on Valentine's Day.
However, when it comes to our most-loved V-Day gifts, love was certainly brewing for one of our coffee-related customers with deliveries increasing over 4000 per cent last year, helping to keep lovers awake past 9pm on date night.
Our top ten picks for this year's most popular Valentine's Day deliveries are:
- Coffee
- Underwear and lingerie
- Flowers
- Chocolate
- Card games
- Wine
- Custom framed photos
- Hosiery
- Beer
- Novelty gifts
Australia Post Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services Gary Starr said the nation's love for Valentine's Day keeps growing.
"Australia Post looks forward to helping our customers spread the love this year, for what is shaping up to be another big Valentine's Day."
"We love helping our community bring that element of surprise to their V-Day gifts, whether it's a thoughtful card or surprise parcel delivery. We hope all our customers are swept off their feet this February 14," Mr. Starr said.
