Australia Women's Futsal Squad Set for Asian Qualifiers

Football Australia is proud to announce the 14-player squad to contest the AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup™ Qualifiers 2025 in Uzbekistan.

Miles Downie - who has been appointed by Football Australia as Head Coach for this qualification campaign - selected the squad following a five-day invitational selection camp held in Western Sydney.

The AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup™ Qualifiers, scheduled for 11-19 January 2025, will see Australia compete in Group C alongside host nation Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Philippines, and Kuwait.

The Australia Women's National Futsal Team will play their first-ever match against Turkmenistan on Saturday, 11 January 2025 at 3.00pm Local (9.00pm AEDT), before facing Kuwait on Monday, 13 January 2025 at 6.00pm Local (12.00am AEDT, Tuesday 14 January 2025), Uzbekistan on Friday, 17 January 2025 at 6.00pm Local (12.00am AEDT, Saturday 18 January 2025) and the Philippines on Sunday, 19 January 2025 at 3.00pm Local (9.00pm AEDT). All matches will take place at Yunusobod Sports Complex, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Australia will earn qualification into the AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup™ 2025 China if they finish in the top two of their group or as the best third-placed team across all groups. The top three finishers at the Women's Futsal Asian Cup will then seal their berths at the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup™ 2025 in the Philippines.

With the Philippines - from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) - hosting the World Cup in late 2025, it presented an ideal opportunity for Football Australia to stand up a team specifically for this qualification cycle where participation in the AFC Qualifiers also marks Australia's debut on the Asian Futsal stage.

Head Coach Miles Downie spoke about the opportunity to standup a team for the Qualifiers and highlighted his belief in the squad.

"We have been working very hard over the past few months to bring this team to life and unearth a group of players ready to represent Australia and qualify for the Asian Cup," Downie said.

"The five-day camp gave us a great opportunity to develop key understandings within the extended group and get to know what each player brings to the team. The players' attitude, competitiveness, and bravery to incorporate new ideas into their game ultimately made my task of choosing the final 14 extremely difficult.

"Our group presents a real challenge with Uzbekistan benefiting from playing on home soil, the Philippines preparing to host the World Cup, a Kuwait side that has been working together for six years, and a strong Turkmenistan team. Each game will offer a unique challenge, and with limited preparation time, the versatility of our playing group will be crucial against these opponents during the Qualifiers.

"We've assembled this squad specifically for this qualification campaign and I'm confident these players have the talent and determination to represent Australia proudly on the Asian stage," Downie concluded.
