Australian Athletes Shine At Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Department of Health

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place in the French capital with record-breaking and showstopping sporting moments. Across the last 2 weeks our Australian athletes showcased their talent to the world, and made Paris 2024 our most successful Olympic Games ever.

Our athletes competed in 42 of the 45 Olympic sports with passion and pride, including new events - breaking and kayak cross. Their determination for success encourages our nation to support their journey, while highlighting the social and health benefits sport brings.

Team Australia marked various moments in history during these Games including:

  • Fourteen-year old Arisa Trew became the youngest Australian to ever win a gold medal.
  • Our Men's Track Cycling team won the team-pursuit gold medal for the first time since Athens 2004.
  • Pole vaulter Nina Kennedy became the first Australian woman to win gold in a field event.
  • Kaylee McKeown became the first Australian athlete across any sport to win four individual gold medals.

High performance athletes' success helps drives participation in sport, creating an active and healthier community. They inspire the nation to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits while creating pathways for the next generation of athletes.

While celebrating the success of our athletes, we look forward to the bright future of sport within our country. Australia is hosting a "Green and Gold" decade of major sporting events in the leadup to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
