Australian FM Heads to Malaysia for Annual Meet

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I am in Malaysia for the annual Australia-Malaysia Annual Foreign Ministers' Meeting, where I will discuss how we can further our economic, defence, security and cultural ties as we look to the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic ties in 2025.

In addition to talks with Malaysia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, I will also meet with Prime Minister YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.

While in Malaysia, I will launch the new Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) Southeast Asia Maritime Institute. The Institute will focus on research, education and training in ocean law and policy, maritime security and marine resources management.

I also look forward to discussing how Australia can support Malaysia's ASEAN Chair Year in 2025.

Australia and Malaysia share a close and longstanding partnership, underpinned by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Our relationship is based on mutual respect, significant trade and investment ties, and strong community links.
