Australian foreign minister to visit Maldives

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan visited Maldives to discuss

COVID-19 and the global economic recovery, trade and investment links, and collaboration on education, climate change and environmental challenges.

Mr Tehan met with Speaker of the People's Majlis and former President Mohamed Nasheed, and participated in a roundtable with ministerial counterparts covering economic development, tourism, and higher education.

Australia and Maldives share a commitment to ensuring a stable and prosperous Indo Pacific region. The Minister's discussions followed recent visits to Maldives by then-US Secretary of State Pompeo and Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.

"Australia and Maldives have a growing relationship, and this visit will provide an opportunity to promote Australia's high-quality food and beverage exports and world-class education services," Mr Tehan said.

Australia and Maldives share a commitment to ensuring a stable and prosperous Indo Pacific region.

The Minister visited Maldives during a stop-over from his visit to Europe and the United Kingdom.
