Australian junior shotgun athlete Marco Corbo has won the gold medal in the Junior Trap Men's final at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany on Thursday.
The ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl was Corbo's international debut where he put on a great performance against strong competition to claim the gold medal. Just before departing for Suhl, Corbo competed at the VIC State Titles scoring an impressive 121/125 to qualify in first position for the final. This qualification score was a personal best for Marco. This experience prior to leaving for Suhl certainly had an impact for Corbo as he competed in the Junior Trap Men qualification.
Corbo, based in NSW continued his impressive qualification scores in Suhl where he once again scored 121/125 to qualify in 2nd position for the semi-final. He met tough competition in the semi-final and scored 16/25 to place 2nd and advance to the medal match. After the first 5 targets in the medal match Corbo was tied with Daruich of Brazil and Thompson of the USA on 5/5. After 10 targets, Corbo was ahead by 1 hit with a score of 10/10. Ultimately, Corbo scored 32/35 to win the gold medal for Australia.
Talking about the final, Marco said "My final was very solid, I was concentrating very hard and I was just keen to shoot and bring it home." He went on to add "time went so quick, it's very hard to explain..you were there for half an hour to an hour, but it felt like 5 minutes, it was amazing."
