Australian Psychological Society Honours 2024 King's Birthday Awardees

We are proud to share that three psychologists have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours List, as announced by the Governor-General. Our whole profession benefits when the profile of psychology is raised through such achievement, and it is wonderful to see such recognition of tireless work by those in our profession.

Adjunct Associate Professor Amanda Gordon AO Hon FAPS from New South Wales has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for significant service to psychology, and to the multicultural community. Amanda has been an APS member for close to 40 years. In 2002-2004 she was APS Vice-President, and was elected President in September 2004, a position she held until September 2008.

Mr Christopher Warren Hall AO MAPS from Victoria has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for significant service to psychology, particularly to grief and bereavement. Christopher has been a member of the APS for 36 years. For the past 26 years Christopher has held the position of Director and Chief Executive Officer of Grief Australia.

Dr Ida Kaplan AM MAPS from Victoria has been awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division (AM) for significant service to community health, particularly within trauma recovery. Ida has been a member of the APS for 48 years. She has over 25 years of research, policy and practice experience promoting the health and human rights of people of refugee background. She has developed and delivered training in trauma recovery internationally and nationally.

Psychologists continue to have an enormous positive impact on the lives of Australians. This recognition is very well deserved.
