The Australian Republic Movement's National Committee has elected a new National Executive following National Committee elections in October.
Social justice advocate, broadcaster, Adjunct Professor and former Socceroo Craig Foster AM was elected Chair in a unanimous vote of the National Committee.
"My thanks to all our members and supporters on behalf of the National Committee for the confidence they've placed in us. I assure everyone that we understand the importance of the movement for Australia's future and the responsibility weighs heavily," said Craig Foster AM.
"The calibre, experience, diversity, gender balance and acumen of the National Committee is representative of contemporary Australia and I'm excited to be working with them all.
"Equality, merit, justice, fairness and inclusion are the five key principles of a modern, confident, reconciled and multicultural Australia that we're all deeply proud of and they underpin the movement to embed our national identity across all institutions including an Australian Head of State.
"Australians want their own representative, chosen by and accountable to us and our inspiring task is to bring this to life in a way that all Australians understand, support and are proud of" said Mr Foster.
Olympic and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Nova Peris OAM and Rationalist Society President Dr Meredith Doig OAM were elected as deputy chairs.
They are joined on the Executive by experienced non-executive director and author Marina Go, veteran media presenter and University of Sydney mathematics ambassador Adam Spencer and policy adviser Tiffany O'Keefe. Nathan Hansford, a director at a global management consulting and professional services firm, was elected as Treasurer.
The new Executive will lead the ARM as it campaigns to build support for an Australian republic and a referendum to be held in the coming years, so that Australia can have an Australian, chosen by Australians as our Head of State.
