Australia expresses its strong support for the European Union's decision to impose cyber sanctions on three individuals linked to the Russian Armed Forces for their role in malicious cyber activity targeting Estonia.
Australia stands in solidarity with the EU and Estonia against malicious cyber activity and commends the EU for this important action.
Cybercrime plagues all corners of the world.
Australia is committed to working with our international partners to shine a light on unacceptable activity in cyberspace, and impose costs on malicious actors who seek to undermine an open, free, stable and secure and interoperable cyberspace. Sanctions are one important method of imposing costs on these actors and serve as a deterrent against such activity.
Australia has also imposed autonomous cyber sanctions and attributed responsibility for malicious cyber behaviour in recent months to disrupt and deter the perpetrators of malicious cyber activity.
