Australia's Community Litter Grants Now Open: KABC

  • Grants of up to $10,000 available for litter prevention projects
  • Latest round supported by clean-up event in collaboration with Containers for Change and Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation
  • Applications open until 20 May 2024

Applications have opened for the Keep Australia Beautiful Council's (KABC) latest round of Community Litter Grants, providing financial support to communities and organisations with projects aimed at addressing local litter problems.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for initiatives and projects that incorporate education, improvements to infrastructure and littering enforcement, consistent with the KABC's Litter Prevention Strategy for Western Australia.

Successful projects will improve public education about correct litter disposal and support a reduction of litter at events, on roadsides and in waterways.

Previous successful grant applicants include the Shire of Carnarvon's Clean Community Coffees project, Track Care WA's 4WD collection bags, and the Captivate Capel Sustainability Festival.

This year's round will open with a community clean-up event in collaboration with Containers for Change and the Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation.

A second clean-up event with Broome Surf Life Saving Club will include previous recipient Eco Surf, whose #3minutechallenge station was installed at the club for beachgoers to keep the area free of litter.

Applications for the Community Litter Grants close on Monday 20 May 2024.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

"These grants are an excellent opportunity for local governments, schools, and community groups to play a part in raising awareness of the issues created by litter and helping change littering behaviour.

"I encourage all community groups to take advantage of these grants and get involved in these important, grassroots initiatives."
