Author Darry Fraser Releases Night On Darling River

Bestselling Australian author Darry Fraser is set to return to Mount Gambier Library with her latest release 'The Night on the Darling River' on Tuesday 11 February at 7:00pm.

Darry is known for writing stories of ordinary people in 19th century Australia who are drawn into difficult circumstances - adventure, mystery and mayhem, love and life, all against the backdrop of historical events.

Manager Library and Community Development Georgina Davison says Darry's novels are popular among locals.

"Darry Fraser's novels are well received within our local community, and we are excited to host Darry once again."

"We were fortunate to host Darry in 2023 alongside Maya Linnell. This year we will see Darry entertaining the crowd herself, discussing her latest release," Mrs Davison said.

Inspired by a love for the Murray River which began when her family moved to Swan Hill, Darry's creativity soared with a series of her novels set there, including her first published in 2016 - 'Daughter of the Murray'.

Set is Echua in 1894 The Night on the Darling River follows Tess, a woman on the run from her abusive husband.

Amid the rising flood waters of the Murray River and shearers' strike violence Tess needs to board the riverboat and she will be free. When a brawl breaks out between unionist shearers and Scabs, Tess is mistaken for a Scab and is pulled aboard the wrong boat - the same boat her husband is bound for.

The event is free with supper provided and books available for sale and signing on the night. To book your seat contact Mount Gambier Library on 8721 2540 or book your seat online via mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library
