Aviation White Paper Unveiled To Boost Sector by 2050

The White Paper sets out the Australian Government's vision for aviation towards 2050 and will deliver a range of initiatives to ensure a safe, competitive, productive and sustainable sector.

Extensive consultation with the aviation industry, state and territory governments, and the Australian community has informed the development of 56 policy initiatives to be delivered through the White Paper.

Key focus areas include:

  • improving the customer experience and ensuring consumers' rights are clear and protected - with a strong focus on improving travel for people with disability.
  • maximising Australian aviation's contribution to net zero, and supporting a sustainable aviation fuel future made in Australia.
  • investing in our regional and remote airports to keep communities across Australia connected and ensure they have the goods and services they need.

Other major themes in the White Paper include securing a competitive and efficient aviation sector, supporting a skilled, secure and productive aviation workforce, regenerating General Aviation, enabling new aviation technologies and a balanced approach to airport planning and noise.

The White Paper release comes 15 years after the publication of its predecessor in 2009, in which time the aviation sector has faced a number of challenges and changes, most notably the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will strengthen and develop the safe, efficient, sustainable and competitive aviation sector required for Australians' economic wellbeing and quality of life.
