The Skate and Scooter Park in Maryborough has received a $40,000 funding boost thanks to the Avoca District Co-operative Limited.
The Co-operative oversees the management of the Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud.
The funding is the result of an application by Council to the 2020 Avoca District Co-operative Limited Targeted Grant Program, which aims to help build strong, connected and vibrant communities in Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud.
Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor thanked the Community Bank for their funding support towards this exciting project.
"In 2018, a petition of 1,000 young people was presented to Council for this project, it's a wonderful example of community empowerment in action and we are thrilled it's one step closer to being realised.
"This facility will not only have broad range of health and wellbeing outcomes for our local community but it will also be utilised by residents of all ages and abilities in our neighbouring townships.
"The funding commitment from the Community Bank will help boost this $643,260 project, which has been made possible thus far thanks to $250,000 in funding from the Victorian Government (Sports Recreation Victoria Local Sports Infrastructure Fund) as well as $395,000 from Council.
"I'd also like to acknowledge the assistance from the Maryborough Lions Clubs, who as a project partner, has helped us to facilitate this grant process."
Avoca District Co-operative Limited Executive Officer Julie Driscoll it was projects like this that showcase what community banking is all about.
"It starts with helping customers achieve their financial goals, then returning profits to the community. The more people that choose to bank with us, the more we can give back to exciting projects like this.
"We're thrilled to be part of this exciting project – which will not only benefit the Maryborough community but the wider region."
Works to construct the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park are set to commence in Spring, with completion expected late 2021.
