Over 5,000 cyclists will have the chance to ride through a fully closed Legacy Way tunnel as part of the Tour de Brisbane sponsored by Transurban - all while raising funds for The Common Good.
Transurban are back in the saddle as sponsors of the 2024 Tour de Brisbane, giving participants the chance to cycle up to 110km on fully closed inner-city roads, including Legacy Way tunnel, Inner City Bypass and the Go Between Bridge.
Ruth Moody, Public Affairs Director Transurban Queensland, said events such as the Tour de Brisbane provide safe opportunities to take in the sights along Brisbane roads and tunnels that are not usually accessible to cyclists.
"Having been a major sponsor of this event since the inaugural ride in 2019, we're thrilled to continue our support of Tour de Brisbane and give participants the exclusive chance to ride beneath Brisbane - around 54m below ground - through Legacy Way tunnel."
"For every other day of the year, cycling through Brisbane's tunnels is not only unsafe, it's illegal, which is one of the reasons why the Tour de Brisbane is so special. It gives cyclists the unique opportunity to pedal through fully closed city roads, including Legacy Way, Inner City Bypass and the Go Between Bridge."
Tour de Brisbane raises funds for The Common Good, an initiative of the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation. This year, the event is gearing up to raise $250,000 for the foundation to fund vital lifesaving medial research.
