With the improvement of trafficable roads to and around the Sunshine Coast in the early 1900s, guesthouses, flats and other accommodation choices began to flourish. A holiday sojourn in a guesthouse back in the 1920s and 30s was an entire social experience. Dances, card parties and musical evenings added to the mystique of the coastal holiday.
Guesthouses such as the Seaspray at Cotton Tree offered the most up to date accommodation, tennis court, and electric lighting. At Caloundra the Grand Central Guest House offered superior accommodation and excellent cuisine. The Surf View Flats were clean and comfortable in a central position with good lawns.
