Ballarat Expo Empowers Seniors to Age Well

The City of Ballarat is excited to announce our upcoming Ageing Well Expo - an event that will assist Ballarat residents to live their best lives as they grow older and help people make informed choices as they age.

The Ballarat Ageing Well Expo, to be held on March 26, is designed to provide valuable information and resources to people 55 years and over, carers, family members and friends. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the changes to aged care and explore options, services and supports that are available locally to help people age well.

The expo will host more than 50 information stalls featuring health, aged care, and social services, advocacy and support groups, government services, a focus on health and wellbeing, plus aids and equipment options.

Representatives from various organisations, guest speakers and industry experts will be on hand at the event to answer all your questions. There will also be a range of giveaways and prizes, including a free 7 Day Gold Membership at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre (BALC) that is available to new members aged over 60 who visit the BALC stall.

The event will be held on Wednesday 26 March from 10am-2pm at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre. The expo is free to attend, and people can drop in throughout the day.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the expo was a new initiative designed to arm older residents, carers or interested family members and friends with as much information as possible.

"We are committed to creating an age-friendly community for our residents and this is just one of many ways in which we are delivering that," she said.

"It can be a daunting experience trying to navigate the ageing journey, so we are here to try and make it as easy as possible for people.

"Everybody who attends this expo will take something away of value."

As outlined in the City of Ballarat's Ageing Well in Ballarat Strategy 2022-26, more than 30 per cent of Ballarat's residents are aged 55 years and over and this percentage is growing.

One of the key focus areas of the Ageing Well in Ballarat Strategy is ensuring residents have access to the information and services they need. The expo will be a one-stop-shop for information on local services, changes to Aged Care and how we can age well.

In addition to the upcoming Ageing Well Expo, the City of Ballarat will once again deliver the Ballarat Seniors Festival throughout October this year, which will also feature the popular 'Get Connected! Ballarat Seniors Expo'.
