Road upgrade works on Barry Way began earlier this week on Monday 24 June 2024 to install new replacement concrete box culverts under Barry Way at Back Swamp Creek.

Thanks to generous funding support from the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Program, crews are on site to perform the following work:

  • Removal of the old corrugated iron culvert pipes
  • Installation of new concrete box culverts
  • Associated roadworks and traffic control measures

Originally scheduled for May 2024, the start date for this project was delayed due to fisheries permit processing times, weather delays, and to complete the additional work required to secure and finalise stockpile sites for project supplies.

Weather permitting, replacement of the Back Swamp Creek culverts is expected to take approximately 8-10 weeks to complete.

Motorists should expect delays due to changed traffic conditions while work is underway. One lane on Barry Way is closed at the project site, with traffic control measures in place. Reduced roadwork speed limits are also now in effect.

Drivers travelling on the southern section of Barry Way should plan ahead for delays over the next 8-10 weeks. Always drive to the conditions and follow the direction of traffic control personnel and signage.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruptions to residents and road users, but some noise, dust and vibration are unavoidable with a project of this kind.

We thank residents and drivers for their patience and understanding while these important infrastructure upgrades are carried out on Barry Way.
