BAS Scientist Awarded Geological Society Medal

British Antarctic Survey

Congratulations to Professor Kate Hendry who has been awarded The Geological Society's Bigsby Medal for eminent services to geology. The announcement was made today (26 February 2025).

Kate is a chemical oceanographer and marine biogeochemist at British Antarctic Survey. On being awarded the Bigsby Medal, she said:

"I found out about this award on Christmas Eve whilst I was at Rothera Research Station. It was so special to get such exciting news whilst on fieldwork, which is my favourite part of my job!

It's wonderful to be recognised in this way, but it's only possible because I've been so lucky to work with such great team members. I've had supportive mentors and have worked with such brilliant early career researchers along the way. It's really all thanks to them!"
