In Bass Coast during the summer of 2023-24, we lost 6 lives to drowning. Six people who didn't make it home to their families, what's even more tragic is that 4 of these lives were from the same family.
While Bass Coast is home to some of Victoria's most beautiful and picturesque beaches, it's also home to some of the most dangerous. This danger is often hidden and can have tragic consequences.
Drowning isn't an issue confined to the boundaries of Bass Coast. Across Western Port to Mornington Peninsula Shire, they face the same dire consequences from beautiful but dangerous beaches.
While some drownings are people who reside in these areas, research shows that it's people visiting these areas from neighbouring municipalities that are most at risk.
