Andrews Labor Government continues to hide Youth Justice worker assaults
Minister for Youth Justice, Natalie Hutchins has hidden the number of assaults against staff at Victoria's Youth Justice Centres to cover up Labor's systematic failings in the problematic portfolio.
In the past five years, reports of riots, assaults on young offenders, and staff members bashed in Youth Justice Centres have increased, causing real concerns for the safety of those inside the walls of Parkville and Malmsbury.
The data released by the Andrews Labor Government is designed to hide the hundreds of assaults on staff members that have occurred since Labor used pizza, violent computer games and confectionary to reward poor behaviour.
The Minister is aware of the risks to staff, and as she has no answers how to best protect them, she is doing her best to protect herself.
As stated by Shadow Minister for Youth Justice, Brad Battin:
"The Andrews Labor Government continues to put protecting themselves ahead of youth justice custodial workers. If the government cannot protect staff, it will never change the lives of young people in the system to come out better than when they went in.
"In Victoria we continue to see young people disrespecting staff in the Youth Justice system after the Andrews Labor Government changed policy to reward bad behaviour."
