Bayside Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Award Nomination - Habitat and Wildlife Conservation Award

Cooling Bayside

Bayside Council successfully applied for funding under the "Greening our City Program" from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and the Environment - administered by Local Government NSW. Council will plant 1,113 trees which will include at least 90% of trees being native or endemic. The planting activities will be consistent with the former Cities of Rockdale and Botany Council Street Tree Master Plans (STMP), Biodiversity Strategy, and other relevant strategies identified in the Bayside Local Strategic Planning Statement. Bayside Council will undertake site analysis, community engagement, sourcing of appropriate trees, installation of plant stock and on-going maintenance activities. The benefits of increasing tree canopy include increased habitat corridors, better noise, dust reduction and significantly increased carbon-dioxide absorption as compared to a monoculture landscape.
