Bayside Success In City Nature Challenge

Bayside has contributed to Greater Melbourne finishing 17th in the worldwide City Nature Challenge 2024.

Cities from around the world competed in this event from 26 April to 29 April that encouraged people to investigate their local environment.

People were asked to take photos or sound recordings of local plants and animals using the iNaturalist app and showcase their unique biodiversity to the rest of the world.

At the end of the competition, Greater Melbourne finished 17th out of 691 cities in 51 countries on all 7 continents, improving from a 20th-placed finish in 2023. The categories were ranked by the number of observations, species and observers.

There has been continuous growth in the City Nature Challenge from year to year, and we encourage you to put Bayside on the map in 2025.

In the meantime, look out for other iNaturalist projects, challenges and competitions you can be a part of in Bayside.
