Be Good Egg This Easter And Bring Chocolate Only

Dept of Agriculture

Easter is just around the corner and it's important to remember the rules that keep Australia safe. One of them is about eggs!

If you're celebrating, remember only eggs of the chocolate variety are allowed to be brought into Australia.

Live animal eggs are a high-risk commodity, and failing to declare them could result in criminal charges of up to 10 years imprisonment or a hefty fine of up to $1.6 million dollars for individuals.

It's not worth putting your eggs in that basket!

Eggs from overseas could bring serious diseases such as Avian Influenza. If you want to bring real animal eggs to Australia, check the Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON), which provides the import conditions for live bird eggs, egg products for human consumption, retorted eggs, and eggshell ornaments. Our biosecurity laws are in place to protect us all and keep our country free of exotic pests and diseases.
