Beach Sand Nourishment Project: Bayside

Bayside Council is about to embark on a crucial project to tackle foreshore erosion that if left unchecked will impact on the Grand Parade within five years.

The project will see 20,500m3 of sand trucked from the beach at Kyeemagh to reform a 450m long beach area between President Avenue and Teralba Road in Brighton le Sands.

A simultaneous project will see a similar amount of sand transferred by road from Dolls Point to re-establish the beach at Ramsgate.

The restoration work will help stabilize the area and protect the foreshore while a long-term beach management plan is developed.

Council received significant funding from the NSW Government to complete the works on crown land and has planned the works to have minimal impact on the community, however small areas of the beach will have to be closed while this essential work is carried out.

This work will impact those using the Ramsgate Baths, part of the parking area off Sanoni Avenue, the walkway around the Sailing Club and the shared pedestrian / cycleway through Cook Park Ramsgate.

All beach restoration work is due to commence in late August and, weather permitting, will finish in November.

Work in Kyeemagh and Brighton will be undertaken Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm. Work in Dolls Point and Sandringham will be undertaken Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm.

Some sections of the beach will be closed for safety reasons although alternative swimming enclosures at Sandringham and Brighton will remain open.
