We have joined the national #OldIsBeautiful campaign to combat ageism and celebrate the beauty and wisdom that comes with age as a way of challenging stereotypes that say beauty fades with time.
At our inaugural campaign workshop last year, 10 older Bayside locals gathered to reflect on their experiences and redefine beauty on their terms.
The workshop included discussions on challenging internalised ageism with eight participants joining our photoshoot to
capture their unique beauty all in the name of pushing back against ageist attitudes.
Brighton East resident Greer said the core question was difficult to answer at first.
"Describing what beauty means to me was hard, and ever since the workshop I've been asking my friends about what they
think it means," she said. "But when I really thought about it, beauty is a feeling that comes from within."
The striking black-and-white portraits, paired with personal messages from participants, celebrate their individuality and
highlight that beauty has no age limit.
The images have been shared across our social media channels and website to spark more conversations about how to combat ageism and create a shift away from being synonymous with youth.
