On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I send my warm wishes to the people of the Kingdom of Belgium as you celebrate your National Day.
Our deep friendship with Belgium is based on our common values and strong commitment to democracy. We have stood shoulder to shoulder in shared sacrifice during two world wars. As founding members of NATO, we established a cornerstone of peace, prosperity, and stability, which the Transatlantic community has enjoyed for more than 70 years. Our close cooperation in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has deepened our bilateral ties.
Our strong trade and investment relationship has continued to flourish on both sides of the Atlantic, including through the U.S.-EU partnership; we look forward to Belgium's January - June 2024 presidency of the Council of the European Union. We recognize Belgium's support of resilient pharmaceutical supply chains, expertise in the clean energy transition and semiconductors, and increased commitment to defense investments and efforts to counter terrorism. Our common commitment to human rights, equity, diversity, and the environment makes us natural partners.
We are a proud partner of Belgium on a broad range of issues that are important to our people, and we have a shared commitment to creating opportunities for our joint security and prosperity. I look forward to our continued collaboration in the coming year to create a more secure and prosperous future for our citizens. Best wishes to the people of Belgium on the occasion of your National Day.
